It’s About Time
I have been trying to make myself start a blog for over a month now. Oops.
Anyway, I can’t believe I have been in The Hague for almost a month. The kids have already changed and grown dramatically during my stay here.
Frederik is a “terrible two” who can be charming when he needs to be. He loves playing with firetrucks, cleaning, and taking care of his baby sister. When his sister cries, he brings her a toy to play with. He speaks to her in baby talk. It’s adorable. He is so pale that his dad says Frederik “glows in the dark.”
Eleonore is three months old cutie who farts like you won’t believe. She always giggles after a big barf, burp, fart, or poop. When I first got here she was colicky and fussy. Now, she sleeps more and has started to make crazy screechy noises. Her mom thinks she can communicate with dolphins.
The dad is a big softy that pretty much lets his kids do whatever they want. He constantly gives me history lessons and tells me random facts and tidbits. He also is an excellent cook.
The mom is talkative lady who loves shopping and movies. She makes lots of movie references that I don’t get. Oops. She also has been telling me a lot of stories about her past. We have good discussions such as Who is more difficult to take care of? A male angry drunk or a female slutty drunk? (I vote the male angry drunk is harder to take care of but she disagrees.)
I am trying my best to learn a bit of Dutch while I’m here. When I first arrived, I tried to just read Frederik’s books with him to try to learn words. However, his dad is German and his mom is Dutch. (Dad speaks German to him while Mom speaks Dutch to him.) Therefore, he has German books, Dutch books, Swedish books, and who knows what. I’m fairly certain that most of the words I have learned are Dutch…
On Mondays and Tuesdays, I have the kids at home with me. Wednesday through Friday, I just have to drop them off and pick them up from daycare. The rest of the day is my time to explore the city. Every weekend has been different. Last weekend we went to Belgium and I got to explore Brussels and Leuven. Belgian waffles and Belgian chocolate are delicious. This weekend I’m heading to London for the weekend. I’m excited to have a break from diaper duty. My current diaper change count is 52.
Mom and Amanda, I’m guessing you two will be the only ones reading this thing :) I’ll start updating this thing for y’all.
