The usual cleaning lady is on vacation in Morocco for her nephew’s wedding so she brought her friend in to replace her for the time being.
The new woman is a Colombian lady who speaks Dutch and Spanish. We have been communicating in Sputch (Spanish + Dutch). This is strange that I feel more comfortable with her speaking Dutch to me than Spanish. I haven’t studied Spanish since eighth grade. It is tiring to try to think in several languages at once. For some reason, when I try to come up with the Spanish word I think of the Chinese one. Maybe I have a foreign language switch in my head and it is getting confused. Who knows.
The parents just came back from a birthday party in France where they had to speak French the entire weekend. The dad said it was exhausting to converse and think in French (partially because he was a bit tipsy too). I am impressed that both of the parents can switch between English, German, Dutch, and French. I am exhausted trying to keep up.
U23 Rowing Championship is coming up soon in Amsterdam. I am going to be volunteering as a host for teams from Hong Kong, China, and Korea. Apparently I am supposed to be a translator. We’ll see how that goes.
For the first time (in a long while), both kids are asleep at the same time. Mothers (Gupo and my mom) tell me that I should sleep when the kids are sleeping. I’m going to try to catch a quick nap.
Adios amigos.
